Carnations Jan VERHAS Termonde 1834 - Brussels 1896 Belgian School Oil on panel: 16 x 22 cm Signed centre right Painter of genre, portraits, landscapes and animals. Pupil of his father, Emmanuel Verhas and of Nicaise De Keyser at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts. Second prize of Rome in 1860. Visited Italy. Made his début with religious works, then composed historical paintings and around 1868, genre paintings. He painted a large number of portraits from the political, diplomatic and artistic world.
