A late 18th century Sheraton period secretaire cabinet in satinwood of exceptional colour and figuring with purpleheart panels, rosewood crossbanding and feathered boxwood stringing throughout; the upper section with an inlaid dog's tooth parquetry cornice above two glazed doors with urn shaped astragals topped by a carved foliate finial and supported on carved swags running down to further carved foliage, the cabinet lined in silk with glass shelves and with inset top lighting; the lower section comprising of a fitted secretaire drawer retaining its original gilded handles, opening to reveal an arrangement of small drawers, arcaded pigeon holes and secret drawers in the form of pilasters with simulated painted stop-fluting, flanking a central cupboard, the writing surface inset with old gilt tooled leather, above cupboard doors with two fitted tray slides, all terminating in elegent outswept feet with a shaped apron.
